The restoration of the Golik Bridge | Jnauary 2014 | Applications to secure funding | 20 000 Euro | Pogradec, Albania |
The Golik Bridge, like many monuments and important parts of our cultural heritage, has been left in neglect — no one shows interest, no one maintains it, and no one intervenes. It is located in the Mokra area, 40 kilometers from the city of Pogradec, over the Shkumbin River in the village of Golik. The bridge was built in the 18th century and is classified as a first-category cultural monument.
Today, the structure has suffered extensive damage caused by time, natural conditions, and the destructive hand of humans. During our inspection, we identified four very serious damages, which raise concerns about the bridge’s continued existence. In response, we have prepared a restoration project, which also includes an awareness campaign targeting the local community — aiming to inform them about the historical value of the bridge and to raise awareness about the importance of its maintenance in the future.
