Nature Education Trail – Lin Peninsula
We continue with the activities of the project “Life Around Water”, this time along the natural trail of the Lin Peninsula, one of the most characteristic landscapes of the lake and a habitat with exceptional ecological value.
During the walk, we had the opportunity to explore the area’s biodiversity more closely, from characteristic Mediterranean vegetation to the microhabitats formed between rocks and the shoreline. We explained the importance of these habitats and became familiar with some of the wild species that accompany this landscape:
• Oak (Quercus sp.) – a symbol of our deciduous forests, playing a key role in soil stabilization and moisture retention. • Prickly juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus) – an aromatic Mediterranean species with high ecological and medicinal value, growing on rocky and dry terrains.
• Wild cyclamen (Cyclamen sp.) – one of the most delicate flowers of the season, adorning the forest with its pink-violet petals.
• Wild rose (Rosa canina) – a natural source of vitamins and an important part of the food chain for the area’s fauna.
• Wetland and shrub vegetation that supports the life of many birds and insects along the lakeshore.
This trail was an opportunity to bring young people and the community closer to nature, introducing them to the values of local biodiversity and the role these ecosystems play in maintaining the environmental balance of Lake Ohrid.
The activity was carried out within the framework of the project “Life Around Water”, part of the Green-AL program “Support to Civil Society Organizations 2024–2027”, funded by the Swedish Government through Sida and implemented by Co-PLAN in cooperation with VIS Albania and COSV – Cooperazione per lo Sviluppo.
