Despite identifying various ecological issues and developing plans and strategies for their resolution and monitoring, it is crucial to raise awareness and involve the community, as well as various associations and organizations, in these plans. Additionally, gathering the necessary environmental information on natural resources and biodiversity from the numerous visitors to the tourist region of Pogradec is vital.

The creation and construction of the “Green Centre” in Drilon serves as a specific point for building the capacities of environmental NGOs that operate around Lake Ohrid. The center will facilitate various public environmental activities (with a specific logo and slogan), focusing on informing numerous visitors and raising public awareness on environmental issues related to Drilon. The goal is to encourage their participation in decision-making processes concerning the wetland areas of Drilon.

Design of the Green Centre:

  • Obtaining the necessary permits for its installation

  • Construction and assembly

The establishment of the Green Centre at the entrance of Drilon, in line with the functional zoning of the tourism master plan for the Pogradec-Drilon lakeshore, as approved by the decision of the K.RR.T.R.SH. (National Council of Territorial Development) on July 6, 2010, and the decision of the Buçimas Municipal Council on March 3, 2014, will be a crucial step in the continued achievement of the objectives of this project, funded by GIZ with the support of the municipality, even after its completion.

A higher public recognition of Drilon, continuous information on various initiatives, plans, and strategies developed by different actors, and increased community participation in activities to preserve and protect this area will be key outcomes. This will also involve the provision of guides for the numerous visitors to Drilon.
